INFORMACION POSTOPERATORIA DE TRATAMIENTO DE ENDODONCIA

DESPUES DEL TRATAMIENTO:

Su anestesia desaparecera en unas pocas horas. Evite comer hasta que pase el efecto de la anestesia para prevenir posibles lesiones en labios y mejillas.

MOLESTIAS:

Es normal sentir molestias o dolor en el drea durante varios dias o incluso semanas. Sus encias pueden estar adoloridas y el diente puede sentirse sensible al morder o masticar. Las molestias generalmente se deben a la infeccién o inflamaci6én existentes y pueden variar de leves a severas. Este malestar no suele afectar ni predecir el resultado del tratamiento y disminuira a medida que el area sane.

Para reducir las molestias, tome 2 tabletas de Tylenol, Motrin o Advil de venta libre (evite Aspirina) antes de que pase el efecto de la anestesia y repita cada 6 horas segun sea necesario para controlar el dolor. Si es necesario, puede alternar Tylenol y Advil cada tres horas para aliviar el dolor. Para evitar nduseas, no tome medicamentos con el est6mago vacio. Si le recetaron antibidticos o antiinflamatorios, t6melos segun las indicaciones para facilitar la curacién. Si le dieron receta para analgésicos, Uselo solo para molestias severas. Deje de tomar los analgésicos recetados después de unos dias o cuando ya no los necesite y deseche cualquier medicamento sobrante.

Hacer enjuagues con agua tibia y sal varias veces al dia (1 cucharadita de sal por vaso de agua tibia) también puede ayudar a reducir las molestias.

En el improbable caso de que experimente inflamacion, fiebre o dolor severo, por favor llame a nuestra oficina inmediatamente.

OBTURACION TEMPORAL:

Se ha colocado una obturacién temporal en la entrada hecha en su diente. Es normal que una capa fina de la obturacidn temporal se desgaste entre citas. Puede experimentar un sabor inusual. Es importante que su obturacién temporal permanezca intacta hasta que se coloque la restauracién permanente. Llame a nuestra oficina inmediatamente si la obturaci6n temporal se sale por completo.

RESTAURACIONES DEFINITIVAS:

Una corona u otra restauraci6n permanente debe colocarse poco después de completar el tratamiento de conducto. Los dientes son fragiles tras el tratamiento y pueden fracturarse si no estan cubiertos con una restauracion fuerte y permanente como una corona. La colocaci6n de la corona no solo protege el diente tratado contra futuras fracturas y caries, sino que también protege la obturacion del conducto contra contaminaci6n o reinfeccion. Retrasar la colocacién de una restauraci6n permanente puede resultar en la pérdida del diente o requerir un re-tratamiento del conducto.

Como parte de nuestro servicio, le recomendamos regresar a nuestra oficina aproximadamente en 6 a9 meses para una re-examinacion y asegurarnos de que la curaci6n progresa normalmente. No habra costo adicional por este servicio.

AFTER THE TREATMENT:

Your anesthesia will wear off in a few hours. Refrain from eating until your anesthesia wears off to prevent possible injury to your lips and cheeks.

DISCOMFORT:

Discomfort or soreness in the area is normal for a few days or even weeks. Your gums might feel sore and your tooth might be tender to biting or chewing. Discomfort is typically due to the existing infection/inflammation and can range from mild to severe. Such discomfort does not typically affect or predict the outcome of the treatment and will reduce/resolve as the area heals. To reduce discomfort, take 2 tablets of over-the-counter Tylenol, Motrin, or Advil (avoid Aspirin) before the numbness wears off and repeat every 6 hours as needed to control pain. If necessary, you can alternate Tylenol and Advil every three hours as needed for pain relieve. To avoid nausea, do not take any medications on an empty stomach. If prescribed, take any antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medication as directed to facilitate healing. If you were given a prescription for pain medication, take it as needed for severe discomfort only. Discontinue taking prescription pain medication after a few days or when no longer needed for severe pain and dispose of any remaining pain medication. Rinsing with warm salt water several times per day (1 teaspoon of salt per glass of warm water) can also reduce discomfort. In the unlikely event that swelling, fever, or severe pain should occur, please call our office immediately.

TEMPORARY FILLING:

A temporary filling has been placed in the entry made into your tooth. It is normal for a thin layer of the temporary filling to be chewed away between appointments. An unusual taste can be expected. It’s important that your temporary filling stays intact until the placement of a permanent restoration. Please call our office right away, if the entire temporary filling comes out.

FINAL RESTORATIONS:

A crown or another permanent restoration should be placed shortly after the root canal therapy is completed. Teeth are fragile after root canal therapy and may fracture if not covered with a strong permanent restoration like a crown. Crown placement not only protects a root canal treated tooth from future fractures and decay, it also protects the root canal filling from possible contamination and reinfection. Delays in covering your recently treated tooth with a permanent restoration may result in a possible loss of the tooth or require re-treatment of the root canal. As part of our service to you, we recommend that you return to this office in approximately 6-9 months for re-examination to determine that healing is progressing normally.
